Wicked
After two decades as one of the most beloved and enduring musicals on Broadway, Wicked makes its long-awaited journey to the big screen, as a spectacular, generation-defining cinematic debut this holiday season.
A vivid reimagining of the classic The Wizard of Oz, Wicked chronicles the untold stories of Oz's most famous (or should we say infamous) witches, namely Elphaba, who will become renowned throughout Oz as the Wicked Witch of the West as she fights to give Animals their voices back, and her unlikely friend, Glinda, the Good Witch who is a pretty pink princess. The story follows green-skinned star Elphaba from birth, to college, and through the life-changing events, which eventually label her "wicked," introducing spoiled rich girl Glinda, local prince and heartthrob, Fiyero, and even the Wizard of Oz, himself, a troubled man, very unlike the one you may remember. As Elphaba, a passionate political activist if there ever was one, fights injustice and seeks to undo the mistakes of the past, dark secrets and personal tragedies shape the history of Oz, paying homage to the classic Wizard of Oz story while simultaneously changing fans' understanding of both the story, and its iconic characters, forever. A cautionary tale about love, friendship and trust, Wicked effortlessly reveals that there are indeed two sides to every story. In Wicked for Good, we find Elphaba, now demonized as the Wicked Witch of the West, continuing her fight to restore Animal rights in Oz. Now, Elphaba lives in exile in the Ozian forest, hiding from the Wizard, while Glinda reigns as the new queen of Oz, living at the palace in the heart of the Emerald City, reveling in the perks of fame and popularity. As an angry mob rises against Elphaba, she will need to reunite with Glinda to transform herself, and all of Oz, for good.
The film will be directed by Jon M. Chu, and will star Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda the Good, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Ethan Slater as Boq, Marissa Bode as Elphaba’s beautiful sister, Nessarose, who will become the Wicked Witch of the East, Keala Settle as Miss Coddle, Peter Dinklage as Dr. Dillamond, as well as a host of other characters.
Wicked: For Good will make its debut in theaters on November 21st, 2025.
