Sean Shapiro

Artist: Sean Shapiro (aka Positive ID)
If I could describe Sean Shapiro, I would say that he is a free spirit in the music world.
Hailing from Torrington, Connecticut, Sean Shapiro, who is better known by his stage name, Positive ID, discovered his love of music when he was an 8 year old, free styling onstage at his aunt’s wedding. He says NWA - a gangsta rap group from Compton California - is the catalyst which gave him the desire to rap because the music they shared was real and they didn’t hold back. His music career has been heavily influenced by American rap artist Tupac Shakur because he respects the fact that Tupac’s life is woven into his rhymes. He also says that it was his cousins who first convinced Shapiro that he had a knack for music.
In 2014, Shapiro began to take his music career more seriously. He got connected with a promoter in the industry, went to New York and started pushing his first single. While he enjoys a broad spectrum of music styles, he likes rap and R&B best, along with classic rock, Frand Sinatra, Mick Jagger, Prince, Michael Jackson, Beethoven and Travis Yates. Shapiro says that when it comes to his music, he usually goes without writing. Freestyle is his norm and that’s why he says #NeverWritten. Shapiro believes that his breakout moment occurred when he dropped his first single titled, “It’s All Over”, which was free flowed in the studio with his producer and friend, Oliver Goldsmith (aka Kenny P.) He stands out in the music industry, “because free flow is a dead art and he doesn’t know many that can do it like he can. He puts his heart on a track and says “It's not just about the " Muny"…It's about the music! People don't see it coming. Like Susan Boyle, I got shock factor…”
Shapiro is an independent, free styling music artist who is currently involved in several projects. He is planning his own album and says that when finished, he hopes that his album sounds like a book of his life. He is currently dropping singles to get people interested in the album. Shapiro says that he is planning to do an album with Brent Mania and he is also being featured in a Friday Night Open Mic Showcase hosted by his favorite Indie label, BST Records, on August 12, in Waterbury Connecticut.
When asked what his greatest achievement has been in his music career, Shapiro says was performing his music live in New York City and having his first single out there. His greatest challenge was that he very nearly quit music because of the haters, but he stuck with it because music means so much to him.
Sean Shapiro has big dreams for his future in music. He sees himself hopefully doing a New England Tour, having more of his albums released, having his own artists and label, performing in a stadium and having more merchandise to help promote his brand. When asked how he balances his music with other aspects of his life, Shapiro says, “Family is always first…but music is a close second for sure.”
