Muppets Most Wanted
Director: James Bobin
Cast: Steve Whitmire, Eric Jacobson, Dave Goelz, Bill Barretta Ty Burrel, Tina Fey, Ricky Gervais
When the Muppets go on a world tour, they find themselves inadvertently thrown into an international jewel heist when Kermit the Frog is replaced by his sinister lookalike, Constantine – the world’s most dangerous frog. Will Kermit stop Constantine from marrying Miss Piggy and save his friends before Constantine achieves his malevolent scheme? Or will this be the end of the Muppet family?
Kermit has always been the heart of the Muppets; the guiding light that has always believed in them and had their best interests at heart. When Kermit and the gang hire Dominic Badguy to help them on their world tour, Kermit’s role as the Muppets leader is challenged when the Muppets like Dominic’s style of leadership over Kermit’s. When Kermit is kidnapped by Constantine and imprisoned in a Russian gulag, he believes that the other Muppets will rescue him and bring him home. Unfortunately for Kermit, Constantine has taken his place as the leader of the Muppets and since he and Dominic are giving the Muppets everything they want, none of the Muppets question the “new” Kermit’s strange behavior. When Walter, Fozzie and Animal discover the truth about Constantine’s scheme, they escape and rescue their lost friend. In the end, the Muppets realize that it is Kermit…not Constantine…who is their true leader and friend and the Muppet family is reunited.
At the beginning of the film, Miss Piggy is overjoyed to be reunited with her Muppet family and particularly with her beloved Kermit. The only problem is that although Miss Piggy is ready to marry her frog prince and live happily ever after, Kermit is still reluctant to tie the knot. The irony of Miss Piggy’s dilemma is when she finally has a frog who is willing to marry her and make her dreams come true, (a.k.a. Constantine) in her heart, she knows that something is wrong; that this frog isn’t really *her* Kermit and that marrying him won’t make her truly happy. After the real Kermit returns to save her from marrying Constantine, Miss Piggy must choose between Kermit and Constantine when both frogs claim to be the real Kermit. Although both Constantine and Kermit look identical, there is absolutely no question in Miss Piggy’s mind who the real Kermit is and he is the one that Miss Piggy chooses.
“Muppets Most Wanted” is an excellent addition to the “Muppets” franchise. The casting for this movie is stellar, both for the Muppet characters and their human counterparts. Constantine is one of the most brilliant villains that has been portrayed in a “Muppet” movie since Long John Silver in “Muppet Treasure Island”. The songs are vibrant and fun and marry perfectly with the humor and heartfelt storyline. If you enjoy the Muppets, then “Muppets Most Wanted” is most definitely worth watching.
