Girl Meets Texas Part 1
Director: Rider Strong & Shiloh Strong
Cast: Ben Savage, Danielle Fishel, Rowan Blanchard, Sabrina Carpenter, Peyton Meyer, Cory Fogelmanis
In this episode of Girl Meets World, Riley and Maya enter Lucas in a rodeo and the children journey to Texas to watch him ride Tombstone the bull. While they are in Texas, Lucas must overcome his fear of riding Tombstone, and Maya discovers that she has feelings for Lucas; feelings that run deeper than mere friendship.
There are two kinds of fear that are manifested in this episode: physical fear and emotional fear.
For Lucas, the fear that he feels is physical; a powerful catalyst that entwines his apprehension with riding Tombstone in the rodeo, with his feelings for Riley and Maya. The reason that Riley and Maya entered Lucas in the rodeo was so that he could overcome a lingering fear that has been with Lucas since childhood. When Lucas realizes that he is riding Tombstone the bull, rather than Judy the sheep, his trepidation only intensifies. In the end, Lucas overcomes his fear of riding Tombstone, but he also realizes that while he does care deeply for both Riley and Maya, a part of him was afraid of these feelings – especially the feelings he felt for Maya – and he has to learn to master that emotion as well.
Maya’s fear stems from a more emotional source. Ironically, it is her concern for Lucas that is the very catalyst which allows her to realize how deeply she cares about him. When Maya and Riley initially enter Lucas in the rodeo, they believe they are helping him overcome his fear of riding Judy the sheep. When Maya sees the danger that Lucas is facing by riding Tombstone, her reaction is quite different from Riley’s. While Riley wants Lucas to overcome his fear by riding Tombstone, Maya is so afraid that Lucas will get hurt that she can’t even watch him ride. While her concern for Lucas is genuine, she doesn’t yet realize the depth of her feelings for him at this point so she shuts him out because she is scared.
