Fast and Furious 6
Director: Justin Lin
Cast: Cast: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Luke Evans
In “Fast and Furious 6”, Dominic Toretto discovers that his beloved Letty is alive, and he and his team must reunite to bring her home and take down a deadly enemy so they can make their family whole again.
There is an intimate undercurrent of symbolism that is woven into this film that plays a significant emotional role in connecting the characters.
When Agent Hobbs asks for Dom’s help in capturing Owen Shaw, Dom is initially unwilling to cooperate until Hobbs shows him a photograph; a photograph that represents the chance for Dom to make his broken family whole again. Up until this point, Dom believed that his girlfriend, Letty, had been murdered. When he sees her in the photograph, this moment rekindled Dom’s hope that he and his lost love could be reunited.
When Dom and Letty are talking after they race each other through London, there is a moment, when Dom tries to break through the darkness surrounding Letty and reconnect with her by sharing memories; memories that are represented by scars. While the scars may seem insignificant, to Dom, the scars on Letty’s body tell a story of moments they have shared, and most importantly, of his love for her. Right before Letty leaves, Dom gives her his necklace. Although he tells her that he’s giving her the necklace because it belongs to her, the true significance of this gift represents something much more intimate. He is not merely giving her the necklace; he is giving Letty his heart and telling her, in his own way, that even though she can’t remember him, he will always be there to protect her.
When Dom returns the computer chip to Hobbs after they have defeated Owen Shaw, Hobbs tells Dom to name the price he wants in exchange for the chip. Up until this point in the film, Dom’s conditions for helping Hobbs capture Shaw have been simple: bring Letty home and ensure full pardons for Dom and his family so they could be free. In the end, when Hobbs asks Dom what price the chip is worth to him, rather than reiterating his conditions, Dom’s price is simply a number: 1327. While this number may seem insignificant to anyone who doesn’t understand it’s value; to Dom and his family, this number is priceless because it represents home and bringing their family together again.
