Once Upon a Time: Best Laid Plans
In this episode of Once Upon a Time, the heroes and villains finally discover the where the elusive Author has been hidden and battle lines are drawn as each side races to find his illustrated prison. Meanwhile, in the Enchanted Forest, Snow and Charming face a heartbreaking choice when they see a vision of their child’s future; a choice that will affect their daughter, Emma, and Maleficent’s unborn child.
The choice that Snow and Charming face is that even though they are heroes; they must be willing to embrace darkness in order to ensure that their daughter stays in the light. When they see the vision of Emma’s future, she has the potential to become both a hero and a villain. When they visit the Apprentice, he tells Snow and Charming that he can banish the potential for darkness from Emma, thus saving her from a life of darkness, but doing so comes at a terrible price. In order for their daughter to remain in the light, Snow and Charming must choose another child to infuse with Emma’s potential for darkness.
The cruel irony of their dilemma is that now that the villains have come to Storybrooke, Rumplestiltskin needs Emma to embrace darkness in order for his plan to succeed and Snow and Charming’s well-kept secret could be the very catalyst that sends both Emma and her parents spiraling into that darkness. Things grow more complicated when the resurrected Maleficent tells Rumple that she wants to use the Author not only to reunite herself with her lost child, but also to make Snow and Charming suffer for daring to take her child in the first place.
